Last year the trees lining the top road between the village and the top of Terrington Bank received a comprehensive overhaul including a trim. This year the intention is for trees along Mowthorpe Lane to enjoy the same attention. In addition, trees at the cemetery are in need of a more thorough programme of thinning and trimming. This work is being costed and will then move forward.
Also in need of attention are trees on The Plump due to excessive overhang along with broken and dead branches. Castle Howard are being consulted as to their wishes and intentions with regard to these trees. In the meantime we may apply to Ryedale District Council for permission to carry out the required work on trees in a Conservation Area.
It is worth mentioning for those who may well not be aware that for any work to be carried out on any trees (above a given juvenile size) within the village centre Conservation Area, it is necessary to apply to and be given permission by Ryedale District Council. Any queries on this subject then Ryedale’s tree adviser, John Clayton will be pleased to advise you. Contact: John Clayton – Tree and Landscape Officer on 01653 600666 ext 459.

The Parish Council held its Annual Meeting and a business meeting on 9th May. It is with great pleasure that we announce that the vacant position of parish councillor has been filled by Mrs Joceline Gibson and we welcome her to the Council.
The position of Chairman was put to a vote the only nomination being for Cllr Bill Winning who thus remains in the role. Cllr Mike Blunt also continues as Treasurer.

Progress has been made towards the acquisition of a defibrillator and siting it in the centre of the village. Further advice from health professionals has meant we now need to purchase and fit a heated secure cabinet. This will need it’s own power supply. Revised costings have been obtained and whilst National Power Grid have been most helpful, the cost of a suitable power supply is still awaited. The site for the device has been checked and approved. Once full costings have been seen, we will know just how much more funding is needed. We welcome ideas for a fund raising event this autumn to increase funds and provide public awareness.
